Finally, some warmer weather is upon us and I have been taking the opportunity to sew some summer dresses and incorporate the embroidery features on my PFAFF creative 3.0.
Sometimes it can be hard to see past the bright colours often depicted in embroidery designs to something more organic and earthy. I often find that simply stitching the design out in a single colour helps to simplify it. That’s what I chose to do here, with the whole design stitched out in white on the bodice of this lovely sage green linen.
The embroidery design is bohemian blues horizontal spray from embroidery library, which lends itself nicely to the shape and size of this bodice.
The dress pattern is the Rosalie slip dress from violet field threads
There were a couple of modifications to this pattern as the bodice in a size 4 was way too small, and would never have gone over their heads, so we upsized to a size 7 bodice with the size 4 skirt, and added a placket down the centre back with some buttons to make it easier to get on and off.

Once the skirt was attached, it was lacking a little length and wasn’t going to get a lot of wear as it would soon be too short. An extra panel at the hem and some pleats fixed that and added a nice design feature. This has the added bonus of the pleats being able to be let down to get maximum longevity out of this dress.
The straps are also fastened with buttons at the back which can be moved as the wearer grows too.

The sweet pom-pom trim at the hem ties the embroidery in nicely!

Now to make a matching one for myself!
Until next time, happy sewing
