With the spring weather finally arriving, I’ve been sewing some dresses for the warmer weather. The Capulet dress from stitch with patterns is a favourite pattern of mine, you can find it here I’ve made this dress once before in a beautiful floaty silk chiffon, but this time I wanted to use linen. I used a lovely mid-weight linen from Pitt Trading It’s a great mid-weight, with enough stability for that lovely puff sleeve.
Whilst I wanted this dress to be black, I did want to add some interest to the bodice… queue the PFAFF creative 3.0!
I searched online for a design I liked and settled on this one from Urban Threads I love the traditional nature of the design, with the added quirkiness of the bees!
I used my large magnetic hoop for this embroidery, with a layer of tear-away stabilizer, which worked really well. The linen required the stabilizer whilst embroidering, but I didn’t want an added layer in the bodice once I sewed it because it would be lined too, so the tear away was a good solution.

The colours I chose to use for the embroidery were predominantly gold, with a touch of mauve and pink.

Once the embroidery was completed, I placed my bodice piece on top to center the embroidery and got to cutting out.
This dress has a pretty simple construction and comes together nice and quick.
I self-lined the bodice with the linen and used a lighter cotton voile for the skirt lining.

One of the things I love about this dress is that you can dress it up or down with shoes and accessories. The embroidered bodice definitely gives it a wow factor! I wore it recently on a sewing retreat for the lingerie society and it was a big hit!
I’ll definitely make this dress again, it’s so easy to wear day and night and the one-piece bodice is a great opportunity for some machine embroidery.
Until next time, happy sewing
