Perfect Hems with the 10mm Hemming Foot

Perfect Hems with the 10mm Hemming Foot
Hemmer foot attachment for Husqvarna and Pfaff sewing machines in packaging.

The hemming of a garment is one of the most important steps. With precise, neat hemming, your ‘me made’ garments will have the professional finish you seek. Pfaff has a great range of feet to make hemming easy and precise. Here we look at the 10mm hemming foot.

A double turned hem is an excellent finish for light to mid weight fabrics.

Mid weight fabrics include cottons, linens, suiting, brocade and silk. A double turned hem works best, but is not limited to, fabrics with some body. A double turned hem on lighter weight fabrics requires some precision, and lots of pressing! A rolled hem is often the better option for lightweight fabrics, there’s a foot for that too!

A double turned hem neatly finishes the edge without the need for overlocking, providing a professional finish.

How to use the 10mm hemming foot

  1.  Snap 10 mm Hemmer onto needle plate of machine.
  2.  Place fabric into the scroll/guide of the 10 mm Hemmer, rolling it up to the needle.
  3. Sew. Do not help the fabric roll. Simply guide it.

The fabric is guided easily into the foot, neatly folding it at the exact size for your stitches to land on the edge of the turned hem. A 2.5mm stitch length is recommended with this foot.

Be sure to press your hems after sewing. Perfect, straight, even hems, every time, with the Pfaff 10mm hemming foot.

Until next time, happy sewing.
