Hearts for Babies

8th Jun 2026

Hearts for Babies

Hearts for babies is a beautiful initiative that we can all jump onboard!

In NICU units and special care nurseries the "heart-to-heart" program utilize soft, fabric hearts, worn by parents and then placed with their babies, to help soothe and reassure them, especially during periods of separation, and promotes bonding of parent and child through scent.

Machine Requirements

  1. All PFAFF machines
  1. Small scraps of 100% cotton fabric
  1. Heart template
  1. General Sewing Equipment

Sewing Instructions

  1. Print and cut out your heart template.
  1. Cut one pair for each heart.
  1. Place right sides together and sew using a 6mm seam allowance, leaving a 4cm gap to turn.
  1. Clip seams and turn right sides out. Press
  1. Sew around the edge of the heart with a 5mm seam allowance, closing the opening as you go.
  1. Trim your threads and give your heart a final press.

Your Heart is finished! Now repeat, what a great use of all those little scraps.

Your local hospital will be so grateful to receive these and this small act of kindness goes a long way when you’ve got a little one going through a tough time.
