Scrap Busting Modern Sampler Block 38 Broken Dishes

Block Sewing Instructions

1. Pin and sew one light orange and one yellow 1½” finished half square triangle (HST) together as shown. Press seams towards light orange triangles. Make two HST units.

2. Pin and sew one light orange and one red 1½” HST together as shown. Press seams toward light orange triangles. Make two HST units.

3. Pin and sew one red 1½” finished HST to opposite sides of one light orange 21/8” finished square on point as shown. Press seams towards red HST’s.

4. Pin and sew one yellow 1½” finished HST to opposite sides of one light orange 21/8” finished square on point as shown. Press seams towards yellow HST’s.

5. Pin and sew one light orange 3” finished quarter square triangle (QST), one yellow 1½” finished HST and one dark orange 1½” finished HST together to form a flying geese unit. Pres seams towards HST’s. Make two flying geese units in each colouration shown.
6. Layout block units following block diagram.
7. Pin and sew one flying geese unit to each side of square in square unit. Press seams open.
8. Pin and sew one HST unit to each side of one flying geese unit. Press seams open. Make two combined units.

9. Pin and sew one combined unit to top and bottom of block centre to complete block. Press seams open.
